NW asks some well known local faces about their Christmas traditions Conleth Kane, Actor. I love Christmas! This Christmas I am very lucky because I get to combine work and family which is brilliant.

My nieces and nephews are at a really fun age too so Santa will definitely be coming this year which is exciting.

Christmas to me has always been a truly magical season.

One of my earliest memories was my Dad taking me to City Hall to visit his work colleagues and visit the traditional Christmas tree.

I still miss my mum and dad at this time of year because they made it so magical. However, now a mother and grandmother myself, I love having all of my family at home together and passing on this magic, from choosing the tree, decorating, enjoying Carols by Candelight at the Chapel of Unity at Methodist College, Christmas Eve drinks with friends and sharing all the gifts from under the tree on Christmas Day.

I love Christmas and the build up to it. Julia and I always like to take a day to go into Belfast and soak up the atmosphere of the Christmas Market and have a fun, relaxing time amidst the madness of getting all the presents for our two young daughters!

I tend to take a week off between Christmas and New Year, but I always like doing the Christmas Eve show and capture the festive excitement and last minute panic as listeners get ready for the next day!

In the weeks leading up to Christmas I always check out the Belfast Christmas Market and treat myself to delicious Dutch pancakes with chocolate sauce!

Then there is no evening quite as magical as Christmas Eve! Susie does the cooking and Mum provides the Christmas pudding with lashings of brandy butter.

How did your beauty career begin and then evolve over the years?

Beauty, or more specifically for me, skin! I worked as a chartered surveyor for many years. Circumstances changed and an opportunity presented itself that allowed me to reassess my working life and I decided that a total change of direction was what I wanted.

I had always been interested in beauty and skincare, reading books in my spare time, so I decided to retrain in beauty and body therapy.

Initially when I opened my clinic I offered a wide range of treatments but gradually over-time I phased these out and now I exclusively offer skincare and facial treatments.

In addition to skincare I also stock a skin specific supplementation programme and Jane Iredale mineral makeup. These products allow me a multifaceted approach to healthy skin.

Taking this a step further, this year I have started a three year diploma in naturopathic nutrition as I am a firm believer that feeding the dermal cells with great nutrition plays a major part in great skin.

Mmm, glamorous? My clients are savvy clued in women and recognise that working within the beauty industry, while interesting and exciting, is also hard work that involves long hours.

When working in this industry there is no such thing as ayou work hours that suit your clients and quite often that involves evenings, weekends and bank holidays – the secret is to do work you love!

For me, my greatest achievement has been to specialise my clinic and do work that I totally love! I have worked tirelessly over the last few years to build up my knowledge, skills and treatments that allow me to offer my clients the very best in skincare.

I have learnt so much but you never know it all, it is a constant learning curve, and I love that! It is a national award based across all of the UK.
